Also to be clear very sorry about the levels on a few of these songs. Apparently Houston doesn't have superior vinyl pressing skills like NY did.

when I was living in Dallas last year I hit the city hard. everyone knew i bought records. and my phone number was in a lot of places. and I guess someone thought i was taking advantage of the community by wanting to purchase mostly black music in black neighborhoods. I woke up one morning with a missed call from an unknown number and that voicemail in my inbox....

tried to do some research to see if i could trace it to no avail. i was never robbed and never left "dead and stinkin' and leakin'" though so thank god for that..

glad you like the mix! spread it around!

Where's the fun in that?

i gladly shift the fun part into finding the records:)...instead of finding out the tracks.

What a fantastic mix. Right up my alley. I've been playing it all week, never gets old.

I tried to crack the tracklisting, but there were a few that stumped me. I know you other DWGers can fill it in:

1. Odisi - Ain't No More Gangstas
2. ??? (Fire!)
3. ???
4. Fesu - Goosebumps
5. Born 2wice - Child 4 Freestyle
6. Coppertone Crew - Southern Hospitality
7. Bru-Skee - G-Ride (Port Arthur represent)
8. ??? (Fire x 1000!!!!)
9. Hustlers by Choice - Mr. Buddy
10. Chris ain't welcome in the muthafuckin hood
11. I thought I was the only one who had this record. (http://imgur.com/NeREfCe)
12. ??? (sounds like Scarface)
13. Point Blank - 6 Deep
14. ???
15. Square Frame Garden - Rings Around Saturn
16. I.Q. - Funk E Nuff (Brooklyn rappers on a Houston label -- what's the deal?)
17. Chief K.B. Rock - Slippin
18. ???
19. C.O.D. - Out There Bad
20. Fesu - Piledriver
21. ???
22. ???
23. Outro - ???

Christopher

pretty good job

Christopher

here are some notes (also pretty sure you will see most of these in this weeks auctions i do)

1. Odisi - Ain't No More Gangstas (the other cut on this 12" is murderous as well! but the sirens and simplicity on this one is lethal!)
2. ??? (Fire!) (this is pretty much virtually unknown; this is the B Side; the first side is crazy too)
3. ??? (you should be able to figure this one out! the 12" is undocumented actually but the song isn't)
4. Fesu - Goosebumps
5. Born 2wice - Child 4 Freestyle (loved this record forever)
6. Coppertone Crew - Southern Hospitality
7. Bru-Skee - G-Ride (Port Arthur represent) (the record is actually called Def, Stupid & Crazy Productions but same thing)
8. ??? (Fire x 1000!!!!) (this is documented but extremely rare and extremely amazing)
9. Hustlers by Choice - Mr. Buddy (RARE!!!)
10. Chris ain't welcome in the muthafuckin hood
11. I thought I was the only one who had this record. (http://imgur.com/NeREfCe) (this record is great just not my style! wish i could find info on it!)
12. ??? (sounds like Scarface) (this is a well known; compared to the rest; Houston 12" not Scarface though)
13. Point Blank - 6 Deep (this is the second pressing; the drums and hook are better; i actually have the first press with a different b side and its really rare; lyrics might be different too)
14. ??? (this is probably one of the better known Houston LPs)
15. Square Frame Garden - Rings Around Saturn (one of my favorites! the Houston De La Soul to me)
16. I.Q. - Funk E Nuff (Brooklyn rappers on a Houston label -- what's the deal?) (no clue what the deal is)
17. Chief K.B. Rock - Slippin (great tune)
18. ??? (HINT: this song is on the same Evolution label that Coppertone Conspiracy is on. still no documentation on it! also have another 12" on that label but its an r&b cut)
19. C.O.D. - Out There Bad
20. Fesu - Piledriver (under the name Fesuy 20/20 and its called Power Driver)
21. ??? (this is a NOLA LP and its really crazy)
22. ??? (no one will ever know this; i won't sell it! its from Dallas actually! and its a 5 song EP and all sounds amazing like this! probably the best Dallas, TX and one of the best Texas EPs i've heard! straight wanna be NY rap! A friend and i have been trying to track this down for years! the DJ, rapper, producer and ex manager have no copies and the majority were destroyed in a fire: good luck!)
23. Outro - ??? (great EP)

Good info - a few teasers too. 'Out there bad' is the standout track for me. The more I think about that COD EP, the more it's up there with Beatnuts, All Souled Out and a few others in my top EP's of all time.

Still need that COD alongside the Square Frame Garden...and some others, of course.

Nr. 22 is SMOOTH. Interesting that you found a copy of this. I hope that it will get released somehow in the future;-)

Interesting how you know about this. And it's not even the name. So apparently the snippet file I labeled the EP as was given to you by the person I gave it to in confidence. I don't think they've ever heard the release. I ain't sharing shit no more haha.

Texas and Cali rap tape cover photos. Actually any city besides NY. Trumps the game. How did they look so awesome. And they all used the black and beige plastic haha
