Oh well, every things be used I guess...
personally, i think the whole 'if it's been used, i can't/won't touch it' philosophy with sampling is long gone. there have been too many instances where samples have been used again and again, sometimes even on the same album (think pete rock) and whilst i'm at it, the 'only sampling off the o.g. press of a record' is bullshit too. some of 'our' favourite records' samples have been taken off bootlegs, compilations, etc and they still sound dope. if you can flip it and freak it, then go for it.
True true. IMO If you are going to use a known sample, you HAVE to make it different / better, otherwise 'your playin ya self'
I still think sampling off comps is pretty wack.
and how many of our favourite producers / records sampled off the UBB comps
@manphat, was just joking with stilts :D
Yep yep, didn't Dre use em for the first NWA lp?
This is all true ^^
a lot of your favourite 80s tracks were sampled from UBBs
@brother croseph I know your steez ;)
@RD precisely, I remember the TDS piece in grandslam, where mike k (?) said he got a job at a high street record shop just so he could order the UBB's to rack them & sample them for their joints
