    Errol "Pumpkin" Bedward appreciation post

I dunno, I think Pumpkin gets slept on when he was Rap's first real production genius who produced, played and composed pretty much all the best singles Enjoy Records put out and who then ghost-produced various classic 12"s that other people took credit for.

He had some of the most amazing basslines and drums, and even his productions that were studio replays of Disco joints like Feel The Heartbeat and Body Rock by the Treacherous 3 sound so much rawer than the replays by Sugarhill's house band, don't they?

Give it up and drop them top 5's, y'all. Here's mine :

    Spoonie Gee - Love Rap

Spoonie Gee & Treacherous 3 - New Rap Language

    Fearless Four - Rockin' It

    Disco Four - Throwdown

Dr. Jeckyll & Mr Hyde - Gettin' Money

Should probably point out that he was responsible for a few duds too because this is the worst record Enjoy put out during their golden-period :

Disco Four - Country Rock And Rap

    Absolutely!

    Two of my favourites

    Nice & Nasty 3 - Ultimate Rap
Outlaw Four - Million Dollar Legs

he's not credited on the label but I'm assuming he did the drums on the Disco Four's Move To the Groove? Sounds like him all over & one of my favourites on Enjoy

All of the above but my fave is 'Biters in the City'.

Not mad at this thread at all. Pumpkin was the king of the beat before Mantronix. Getting money is very special to me.

An all time favourite track for me, and perhaps the first "posse cut" on wax.....

Two big thumbs up to these... The way he carries the break at the beginning of "Million Dollar Legs" is a signature moment of old school goodness. Who doesn't know:

"Pumpkin... For all the foxy girls... Why don't you get on the drums and rock their world?"

He provides the perfect backdrop to let Trickeration get LOOSE!

Very good point. I don't think Showdown by The Furious Five & The Sugarhill Gang would count since it's only two groups and I can't think of anything else.

Gotta mention his last production for Spoonie Gee - Get Off My Tip. His percussion was just so funky.

Actually, the Spoonie Gee/Treacherous Three - Love Rap/New Rap Language record is my favourite hip hop 12"

The Disco Four don't get enough love IMO
