to be honest i don't have any j5 record.i used to have the "improvised 12" with "concrete schoolyard" on it.
somehow i must have sold this? but i never liked the group that much,so whatever.
but the 1st lp by five deez blew me away.
never heard that style before.its real creative, innovative and atmospheric.
for me a masterpiece; but everone has a different taste

The first J5 EP/LP was brilliant and still works today. I don't care so much for the rest of their output but that's enough to give them the edge here. Five Deez are nice and I bought some stuff by them 10-15 years ago, but it's not something I would listen to again today. I think I sold most of it. Preferred 3582 when it comes to Fat Jon.

j5 unified rebelution 12" is classic material, the j5 ep is also excellent but was played to death when it dropped. quality control & power in numbers had some solid tracks. everything after that i couldnt get into.... as a whole they were a decent group, unique productions & entertaining mcs.

five deez i never really got into but i do own some of there instrumentals, fat jon's productions are chilly.

J5 all the way for me.....going against the grain, I've always liked their stuff, right up to the Feedback LP. I don't see them as studenty or throwback....I just like their music and the way they flow.....

That said I haven't really checked 5 Deez (a case of sleeping on them so i'd best do that!)
