Obscure tracks with high number of views on YouTube

Shall we live under the influence of the mighty powerful algorithm? This is not EFP Tried by 12 that is universally known.
For most independent tracks, I consider 100k as a good number.
I don't know why certain songs reach such high numbers instead of others.

    My favorites:
    First World-Mad weed (2M+)

The B.L.U.N.T.E.D. Crew - Keep Your Head (1M+)

    Mad One-Dimension (150K+)

    Big Squig-Keep It Going (840K+)

Silent Ones-They want me dead (500K+)

Any others? I am curious to know

Funny you mention this, Ive noticed this recently as well, usually my first few recommendations are:

    GFD - Status (2,5m views)

Shortie No Mass - Like This/U Like My Style (1,4M)

Square One - Take your time (950k)

Great tracks no doubt, but catapulted into space by algos compared to other great indies that are at least as good. Nice for the artists to see them getting the late shine even with folks that only consume music digitally through YT and co., but a shame that they wont see a penny of any returns such "click-madness" may create..

There was an article about this last year:

Change by Shadez Of Brooklyn seems to be the daddy with over 5 million views.

Weird phenomenon. Shame the artists can't monetise this.

I wondered about this too.... the rare indies with high views are all really good tracks. But there are also some equally great ones with like 1,000 - 100,000 views. I assume some of those had been taken down in the past and reuploaded.

Some other obscure tracks I noticed with high views (all dope, but mind blowing that over a million folks know these!)

    1.6M Views

    1.3M Views

    1.9M Views

    1.9M Views

1 million views doesn't necessarily mean 1 million folks, though. Far more likely that they're being streamed repeatedly by the same 100/200 thousand people, especially since most of these songs aren't available on Spotify etc so YouTube is the only place you can hear them.

you also have to allow for the fact that some have been on there considerably longer than others sow will have higher figures and some might've been uploaded by a few different users so the figures are split across a few different videos

Would be interested to know which vids have been ripped to mp3 the most and also how YouTube can operate as a free unlicensed streaming service with impunity but that's another thread I guess.

True. Still... lots of unique users for such obscure tracks. Not making a dime off the streaming sucks, but some at least have generated enough interest to rerelease through Dope Folks, Chopped Herring, Heavy Jewelz, Back2DaSource, etc

These are all pretty well "known" tracks imo.
