I read that yesterday and couldn't get past the use of quotation marks on the artist names throughout. Why do people do that?!

Why? Major Labels know that fans of all types of music are always desperate for new-vintage material to be unearthed.

Most of the time this sort of project is a marketing ploy to cash in on some substandard “out-take” type of material.

To be clear, I am as hopeful as the next man.

But the chances are, this is ain’t gonna be a patch on the vintage 89-93 stuff that most GangStarr fans crave.

^ exactly... the Ownerz was a solid effort, but didn't really blow minds when it dropped 16... yes, 16 years ago... so my excitement is being managed accordingly

The highlights of The Ownerz BODY this new song.

I played some of The Ownerz earlier this evening, I didn't have time for the whole thing so more of a skim through the tracks and it reminded me I've always thought the Skills was a lackluster lead single for the album, poor choice in my opinion.

The Ownerz is actually a decent album all things considered. Comparing it to their previous ones won't enhance your experience though.

As for the new song, its decent. Beat is very Moment Of Truth-ish, which is considerably better than it being PRhyme-ish.
Maybe the way it's been presented didn't work for some of you. If it didn't have the J Cole feature and was released on a limited 7" as an album outtake from '98 you lot would be all over it.

It's hardly a cash grab either btw.
